Making February your new January

Did that familiar thing happen? Where New Years Eve throws you into January, the January that you tell yourself you're ready for but then suddenly you're in week three of said January, you've not quite started feeling the way you thought you would - perhaps February 1st can be the new, new start of the year? Make yourself a cup of tea and feel comforted in the fact that you're not alone.

Breathe in. Breathe out. You got this.

It's no secret that each year, people express that the 'new year' will be 'their year.' I recall reading a quote that zoomed around social media, that encouraged people not to do this, not to take this new year as 'their year' and... I think I somewhat agree.

What I do think we should do is just gently discover what the next year will bring. Sure, be confident, creative and inspired throughout everything you do, but make sure to take it easy. Especially after the year we've all just been through.

There's an obvious amount of things we all need to get done in daily life that we can't ignore, doing these things get us through those same day to day routines. I believe we need to look at 2021 and not see it as a new year, but see it as a recovering year. Take this in any form you like.

Most of us are still in lockdown, as stated in my last blog, there's many things you can do to pass the time, even better yourself. There's an awful lot of things that won't be happening this year BUT there's also a lot of things that could happen, that we won't have ever intended to happen. This year can be the year that you needed to recoup yourself. Ready yourself for 'your year' in 2022.

How many times do we compare, like or retweet past years with the quotes that look something like... 2017 you broke me, 2018 you taught me, 2019 you blessed me, 2020 you challenged me... 2021 bring it on...????

Well, no matter how you overlook your years, I believe that 2022 should be the 'bring it on' year, let this year be... 2021 you healed me.

That's what we all need. We don't need to be thrown into another harsh year when we're barely recovering from the last (five). We need time to heal, time to sort our health, our relationships with other people and the relationship you have with yourself.

You don't want to travel down another year of broken promises with yourself. If you're restarting your new year today, February 1st, then that's okay, this year will be full of second, third, and fourth chances. It's okay not to be okay and this year will be the healing year that you find you needed more than you realised. One whole year to regenerate yourself, your goals, your family. Let the next 11 months be the run up you need to 2022, when that year, will be your year.
