Valentine's is coming - single or not

Valentine's Day, February 14th, is quite literally around the corner. On a normal year, many of us would celebrate or avoid this day whichever way that suits us best, however, things may be a bit limited. I have a few ideas on how to celebrate this day - single or not - from the confines of your own home.

Ideas for couples

Whether it’s your first Valentine's or 5th or even your 20th - there’s no reason why this Valentine's can’t be just as special as you anticipated it to be.

Living together/ in the same bubble

If you’re both lucky enough to be within the same household during Valentine's, then I suggest you go for a fun/romantic type of event. If you had your heart set on going out to a restaurant, just simply bring the restaurant to you - no, I don’t mean ordering a takeaway. Plan together to make your own three course meal! You could easily do this yourself and surprise your other half, but actually making the meal together might bring a whole new level of enjoyment, laughter and intimacy to the meal. You could even go as far as saying one makes the starters, the other makes the main then you both make deserts, battling it out to see whose dish is better. Stick on some music, open a bottle of your favourite and get cooking, together. While you do it, sing, dance, laugh! Don’t forget that you’re simply enjoying each other’s company and it could become one of your favourite Valentine memories. The rest of the day/ night should simply fall into place.

Spending Valentines Day apart

If you’re in a relationship but unfortunately are spending February 14th apart, you can easily take some time to make up for that by zooming one another. Sounds funny, bear with me. If you too were hoping for a dinner date, you could time it perfectly and each make the exact same meal then meet each other online and have a digital dinner date (something that could be right out of the movies)

You could take a leaf out of Harry and Sally’s book and watch a new movie together while on the phone. I’ve done this before and it’s actually more fun than you think.

Other ideas for spending Valentine's with your loved one, whether you're spending it together or apart.

- Discuss or plan a bucket list of things to do together

- Remind each other why you're grateful for one another

- Come up with about 10-15 questions to ask one another, that way you get to know them better

- Start a new hobby together

- Plan an indoor picnic or camp night (i.e. cover the living room in blankets, pillows, duvets and relax in front of the fire and watch a movie

- Get flowers delivered to your other half, even if you live in the same house, they won't expect it

- Breakfast in bed!

Ideas if you're single

If your single, happily or recently out of a relationship, there’s ABSOLUTELY no reason you can’t enjoy today. Remember Valentine's is the day of love and there’s no more important love than self love. Seriously. Use this day to fully treat yourself. Have a relaxing bath with salts, bath bombs, candles, music, that glass of wine - the works. Pamper yourself for the day, do you hair, nails, makeup, get all dressed up if you like. If you have an outfit in your wardrobe you’ve been dying to wear but no where to wear it - put it on! Put on your favourite movie, a romance movie even. Spend the day to give yourself time to do whatever you’ve been wanting to do. Don't consider it as you're missing out on a day of love as self love is just as important. Consider it as your second birthday and focus on you!

Other ideas for spending Valentine's Day single.

- Cook or order in your no'1 favourite meal

- Get some of your favourite treats and have a marathon of your favourite tv show (Gossip Girl, Sex and the City, The Walking Dead even)

- Make plans with your other single friends, give them a call or zoom them. Make it an unofficial, official friend day

- Do something nice for someone else

- Stay off social media and take some time to yourself

- Start a new hobby

- Catch up on the sleep you've been missing and get an early night

- Online shopping spree, get yourself a little something with the money you would've spent on a meal

- Send flowers to yourself - no, not lame, it's 100% always nice to have flowers around the house

I hope I've been able to supply you with a hint of what you want to do on Valentine's Day, either way, I hope you enjoy yourself no matter which way you intend on spending it.

Also, Valentine's is the day of love, so don’t forget to give some of your attention to your loved ones, family members and friends. There’s a lot of love to go around and we all definitely need a little bit of that at the moment.
